Audio & Licensing

Transparency about how audio works in Fluent Thai apps

Thai TTS (Beta) Disclaimer

Some Fluent Thai apps use your browser's built-in Text-to-Speech (TTS) engine for Thai audio. Others use pre-recorded MP3 audio. Where TTS is used, it is not recorded native speaker audio.

Important limitations:

  • TTS quality varies significantly by device, browser, and operating system
  • Thai TTS may not be available on all devices
  • Tone pronunciation may not be perfectly accurate
  • Speed and naturalness vary by TTS engine

Use TTS as a pronunciation aid, not as your sole model for Thai pronunciation. We recommend supplementing with native speaker content from YouTube, podcasts, and tutors.

Apps Without Audio

These apps focus on reading and visual skills without audio components.

Future Audio Plans

We are exploring options for licensed native speaker recordings. If you are a native Thai speaker interested in contributing recordings, or if you have access to CC-licensed Thai audio, please reach out.

All future audio additions will include clear provenance information and licensing details.

Browser TTS Compatibility

Best Thai TTS Support

For the best TTS experience, we recommend these browsers/systems:

  • Chrome/Edge:Generally good Thai voice support, especially on Windows and Android
  • Safari (macOS/iOS):Good Thai voice available through system settings
  • Firefox:Uses system voices; availability depends on OS

If Thai TTS is not available on your device, apps will still function but without audio playback. You can check TTS availability in each app's settings.
